William Shakespeare
Known as on of the greatest writers of all time, William Shakespeare was born in Stratford-Upon-Avon in the United Kingdom on the 23rd of April 1564. William was the third child of a leather merchant, John Shakespeare and a local land heiress Mary Arden. He had two older sisters Judith and Joan and three younger brothers named Gilbert, Edmond and Richard .William attended the Kings a New School in Stratford. This school taught reading, writing as well as the classics. Much of Shakespeare’s life was not documented, but it is said that he was taken out of school as a teenager due to financial difficulties and became an apprentice to his father. At the age of 18 in 1582 on November 28th he married 26 year old Anne Hathaway in Worcester in Canterbury Province. Anne was from a little village west of Stratford called Shottery. Their first child was names Susanna, born on the 26th of May 1583. On the 2nd of February in 1585 the couple had a set of twins Hamnet and Judith. At the age of 11 Hamnet died due to unknown causes.
After the birth of the twins seven years of William Shakespeare's life has no existing records. These years are refereed to as the 'lost years' to some scholars. Some say that during this time period he might have been working as a schoolmaster in Lancashire. Others say then he possibly was in hiding. The mid to late 1580s Shakespeare left Stratford and moved to London where he became very involved in the theater.
In 1592, there is evidence William Shakespeare earned a living as an actor and a playwright in London and possibly had several plays produced. In 1592-1594 there was a plague. This kept the theater closed, as a result Shakespeare turned to poetry. He wrote 3 poems, Adonis, Venus and The Pare of Lucree which became incredibly popular. Shakespeare was becoming appealing for 'first time citizens' who were not fans of theater. He also gained respect of many Englishmen by publishing these. By the early 1590s, documents show William Shakespeare became very involved in a theater organisation called the Lord Chamberlain's Men which later became known as the King's Men after the crowning of King James I, in 1603 in which Shakespeare benefited largely from its income. At the time if tragedy was popular that is when he wrote a tragedy. Same with as when dramatic romances were popular he went on to write a dramatic romance. as a writer he made it his job to meet the demands of the people. Things like this are one of the reasons as to why Shakespeare was a man of great success.
Later on in his life Shakespeare returned back to his home town of Stratford where he died on his birthday the 23rd of April in 1616 at the age 52. He was buried at the Holy Trinity Church in Stratford. Many of his works weren't published until after his death. As of today Shakespeare is still spoken of and well respected as well as admired by many people. His works are still read and studied across the world.
